Cat owner problems? The "I sing original songs for my cat" issue

How can I express this overwhelming love for cats that fills my heart? I'm sure many cat owners dedicate "original songs" to their beloved felines because of this feeling. (I hope I'm not the only one!) In my house, where three beloved cats live, I'm constantly serenading them with original parody songs filled with my persistent love.

Turning nostalgic commercial jingles into "My Cat Songs"

In my house, each cat has their own original song. These one-sided, overly affectionate "My Cat Songs" vary widely: some are strange parodies that infuse cat love into trendy tunes, while others are melodies that pop into my head, incorporating traits of my beloved cats.

My cats always watch me with cool eyes as I smile, stroking their faces and bodies, and poking their cheeks, singing these odd "My Cat Songs." (It's sad.)

The "My Cat Songs" I hum usually change frequently depending on the years I've spent with my cats and my mood at the time. However, there are some songs I've been singing continuously.

For example, if you're in your thirties like me, you might immediately think, "Ah, that song!" The parody of the song "Kyoro-chan, Kyoro-chan~" that was used in an old Choco Ball commercial is one I've been singing for over 10 years.

For some reason, I really love this rhythmic melody, so I substitute my cat's name and sing it as a parody. For instance, when I sing it to Jiji, our oldest cat, it goes something like this:

"♪ Jiji-chan, Jiji-chan, Jijijijijijiji, Ji! (strongly) Ji! (even more strongly) Chan!!!"

When I sing this song in front of Jiji, I have a unique personal rule: I twirl my finger in front of Jiji's face to the melody. I wanted to express the cuteness of Jiji's curled whiskers through the sound, and it became a habit I can't break.

Even though it's a short song, I put all my love into singing it, but Jiji always acts indifferent. With a cold gaze that seems to say, "What are you doing now?" he quickly goes off to eat.

By the way, when I'm singing an original song to one of them, the other cats seem to think, "Oh no! If that human catches me now, it's going to be a hassle..." and they evacuate to the catwalk or the cat room upstairs. I'm completely treated like "that weirdo who suddenly starts singing."

Sometimes I hold a solo concert of "My Cat Songs"

This year, at 34, I went to my first-ever live concert. Since that day, I've become completely captivated by the joy of live music, and I even started holding solo concerts of "My Cat Songs" at home. (It's practically madness.)

These concerts mostly happen while I'm preparing dinner. My cats have usually already eaten and are in a good mood, so it's the perfect time to entertain them.

When I do a solo concert, I always start with a greeting.

"Hello, everyone! Thank you for coming today! I hope you have a blast!!! (For some reason, in a rock style) And now, for the first song!!! Please listen to 'Not Kyoro-chan, but Jiji-chan!' (proudly)"

After this strange solo concert talk, I raise my right hand high and sway it, singing "Not Kyoro-chan, but Jiji-chan" with great enthusiasm, while my cats completely ignore me. Sometimes, they pretend to be asleep in a slightly distant spot, trying to get through it.

I'm sure for them, it's just "Oh, the minion is doing something weird again." These irregularly held solo concerts are sometimes witnessed by my partner. I often wonder what my partner thinks when they quietly walk into the kitchen and see me like that.

Original songs can also be a charm for "the day of farewell"

When I sing original songs, my cats always act indifferent. Their coolness can sometimes be frustrating, but with a strong spirit of "Oh, you little tsundere! I know you're secretly happy," I intend to keep creating many more original songs. (A firm resolve)

Isn't a song something that comes to mind in a sudden moment, something "strongly memorable"? I feel like those unforgettable everyday memories, like "Oh, I remember twirling my finger to mimic Jiji's whiskers while singing, and sometimes he'd bite my finger," or "When I danced writing Leo and Kota's names with my butt, they'd roll their eyes and be completely put off," can be recorded in my head and heart along with the original songs.

So, even if my beloved cat crosses the rainbow bridge, if there's an original song, the memories of the days we spent together will surface with the song, and I'll be able to truly feel, "That cat really was here in this house."

Though I never want it to come, the day of farewell will surely arrive someday, so I think I create and sing original songs as a charm for that time.

It's fine if they think I'm a crazy minion who suddenly starts singing weird songs. It's fine if not even 1mm of the cat love in my heart gets conveyed. It's fine if they think it's a self-serving, one-sided, intrusive love song, just let me keep singing about you.

With that thought, I hold a "My Cat Song" concert again today as I prepare dinner.
