My beloved cat teases me with a "pfft"

Leon, our brown tabby cat, is an expert at sticking out his tongue. Whenever I take a picture of him during snack time, he always shows me a "pfft" that could rival any human, as if to tease his owner. (Something like, "Stop taking pictures and give me more snacks!")

I always think, "Isn't your tongue long?" Compared to other cats, I feel like it's about 1.5 times longer. Is it just my imagination? ...Hmm, I don't think it is. After all, when he eats his "nyan-spoon" snack, he's the only one who scoops it all up with his tongue.

Sometimes, Leon even does a "reverse pfft."

I'm desperate to figure out how that long tongue fits into his small, cute mouth.

Back then, Gigi's new hobby was joining me in the bathroom when I took a bath. On this particular day, she ran (unusually fast) and came into the bathroom with me.

Usually, she would leave the bathroom before I shampooed my hair, but this day, she kept rolling around on the bathroom floor. So, I said, "I'm going to wash my hair now," and stood up in front of her.

Then, perhaps due to the awkwardness of seeing me naked, Gigi made this face. Maybe she felt like she "shouldn't have seen that," because after that, she didn't come to play in the bathroom much anymore. It makes me sad...

The tabby cat who switches between affectionate and bold faces

Another cute thing about cats is how they express their feelings with their faces when they're happy. Kotaro, the tabby cat, loves me very much (I'm proud to say!), so just petting him makes him make a face like this.

No matter how many times I see it, the power of this smile is incredible. Every time, I shout "Cute!" and sing a made-up theme song: "Kota, Kota! Tako-chan! ♪"

My cats sometimes look like raccoons or stand on two legs, so there's a "cat or not?" suspicion about them, but Kotaro is the most cat-like cat.

He usually has a sharp look, but he turns into a baby just for me. I'm such a pushover, completely falling for the gap in his personality, like something out of an otome game.

Sometimes, Kotaro acts tough, showing off his belly zipper and asking "Wanna fight?", but deep down, he's a scaredy-cat.

That's what I love about you. Although, if I tell you "I love you" too much, you give me a bored look.

How can I be angry when I see a smile like that...?

Our cat overlords sometimes show off their innate cleverness, like secretly throwing a "Churu party" when our backs are turned, or stealing snacks.

At times like these, as owners, we have to pretend to be firm and tell them "no." But if they show us a face like this... well, it's impossible! I can't get angry!

On this day, Gigi cleverly monopolized the snacks that Leon had sneakily taken out. I was engrossed in a game and only understood the situation when I heard Leon's sad cry of "Wah!"

After telling Leon "no," I thought I had to tell Gigi as well. So, I asked, "Gigi, were the snacks delicious?" with a slightly stern brow, and she responded with a "Meow~" and this face. Argh! She's too cute to get angry at!

I found myself smiling and, at the same time, pointed my phone camera, which I had discreetly prepared to capture the mischievous scene, at Gigi.

Gigi, who rarely meows, unusually meowed and said, "It's delicious." Do I, a human, have the right to scold her when she's feeling such joy? Am I even a good enough human to tell my cat overlord "no" in the first place...?

That smile at that moment had enough power to make me ponder such deep self-reflection.

In the end, I lost to her beaming smile and couldn't get angry... Leon, feeling "Only I got scolded!", bit my leg. So, I apologized and, to get him to cheer up, we decided to have a snack party with everyone.

This mental care was a great success. Afterwards, Leon, with a cynical smile, agreed to take a two-shot photo with me. Hooray!

After stealing snacks or delicious food, just smile and try to get away with it. That way, your owner can't get angry. I can only hope that Gigi hasn't spread that lesson to her housemates.

Cats actually have a rich range of emotional expressions, from laughing and being angry to being sad and even a little wistful.

I hope to continue enjoying many moments where I wonder, "Why are you making that face...?"
