I have a sweet tooth. I often enjoy a snack after meals. And when I do, my cats always make a big fuss. As soon as I stand up and head to the fridge, my two cats suddenly wake up and follow me.

This following isn't because they're clingy and want to be near me.

Cat 1: "He went to get something!"

Cat 2: "Don't tell me he's eating snacks by himself?! Unacceptable! I need to check!" It's more of a surveillance-style follow.

When I take a dessert out of the fridge and sit on my floor chair, the cats who were following me jump onto the table. First, they stare at me, with an expression that says, "Of course, you'll give some to us too, right...?"

If I pretend not to notice their silent begging, Leon, the youngest cat, resorts to force. He waits for the moment I bring a sweet to my mouth with a spoon or fork and unleashes a cat punch.

What he's aiming for is to accidentally get ice cream or yogurt on his paw pads when he cat-punches. He's a strategist who makes it seem like he "just happened to get some on his paw, so it can't be helped" while savoring the small amount of sweets he's snatched.

Leon's cat punches are so quick that clumsy me can't avoid them. So, when it's sweets like chocolate that are harmful to cats, I think of the worst-case scenario and leave the living room to munch on the stairs alone.

At that time, my cats start a chorus. It feels like they're saying, "We know you're hogging all the snacks!" After my snack, I can't help but offer my cats some treats to lessen my guilt.

No "give me snacks" appeal to my husband

However, for some reason, my cats only appeal to me for "snacks." My husband also has a sweet tooth and often eats dessert after meals, but when he heads to the fridge, my cats are as quiet as different cats...

They react to sounds, but they don't follow him like they do me when I take out dessert; sometimes they even continue sleeping. When my husband starts eating dessert, they get on the table and make a quiet "I want some" appeal, just like they do with me, but after a few minutes, they give up and start wandering around the room.

The most enviable thing is that no cat punches are thrown while he's eating. For some reason, Leon doesn't use the "oops, I accidentally got dessert on my paw" strategy with my husband.

This strategy, which Leon must have thought about very hard, is very cute and heartwarming, but for the person on the receiving end, there's one problem... If the cat punch comes closer than expected, or if I'm just about to close my mouth, Leon's paw sometimes ends up in my mouth...

A few times in the past, when his fluffy paw ended up in my mouth, I exclaimed, "Wow~! So fluffy!!" with delight, but Leon looked annoyed.

He seemed to lose interest, stared at his paw, and looked disappointed as if saying, "Gross..." So I apologized, "Sorry I ate it," and wiped his paw with a towel dampened with lukewarm water.

It's your fault for throwing a cat punch in the first place, though. Even if I told you that, you'd probably get angry like a child and say, "It's the servant's fault for not paying attention!" (lol)

Why does a cat with no interest in sweets participate in the "snack heist"?

When I'm eating snacks, my cat Kotarou, along with Leon, always participates in the snack heist battle. It's a very cute sight, but I've always had a question I wanted to ask. Why does Kotarou join the snack heist when he's not interested in sweets?

When I eat desserts that are harmless to cats, like unsweetened yogurt, I always share a tiny bit with my beloved cats. It's because I can't stand the silent pressure of them staring at me.

Leon, the master of the cat punch, licks the share without hesitation. He then unleashes cat punches as fast as a boxer, as if to say, "I deserve more than this!"

On the other hand, Kotarou only sniffs the shared treat when I offer it to him. Even when I put it on my finger and offer it saying, "You can have a little," he makes a unique "Moo-n!" sound and walks away. ...If he's not interested in sweets, why does he always put pressure on me during dessert time? This is an eternal mystery.

Even for humans, the grass is always greener on the other side. Perhaps Kotarou felt the same way, but when he actually saw the snack in front of him, he might have been brought back to reality, thinking, "It's not that delicious after all..."

However, for some reason, Kotarou is very interested in the tamagoyaki (Japanese omelet) that my husband makes (but not the one I make). When it's on the dining table, he watches us and reaches out to steal the tamagoyaki.

But he doesn't have Leon's speed, and his paw trembles (lol) perhaps from the tension of "I can't mess this up..." Of course, I don't give it to him, but his expression is so incredibly cute that I end up bribing him with some nice treats. I'm completely wrapped around his little paw.
