How to Measure Your Cat's Exact Neck Size
The "exact neck size" refers to the snug measurement of your cat's neck without any slack.
When your cat is relaxed, use a soft measuring tape to measure the narrowest part of their neck. Part the fur gently to ensure the tape fits snugly against the skin.
This measurement is your cat's exact neck size. At POPONEKO, we refer to this as the "Fits Neck Size" in our size charts.
*Note: If your cat is a bit wiggly or you don't have a soft measuring tape, you can use a piece of non-stretch string or yarn, and then measure the string with a ruler.
How to Choose the Right Collar Size
Since the exact neck size is a snug fit, you'll need to add some allowance (wiggle room) when selecting a collar.
As a general rule, add 0.8–1.6" / 2–4 cm for kittens and shorthair cats (about 1–2 human fingers of space), and 2.0" / 5 cm for longhair cats (about 2–3 human fingers of space).
If the collar is too tight, it can cause hair loss around the neck. If it's too loose, it can be dangerous as your cat might get their jaw stuck or slip a leg through. Always measure their exact neck size and choose a collar that provides a safe and comfortable fit.

- Exact neck size 5.9" (15 cm) + Allowance 1.6" (4 cm) = Fits Neck Size 7.5" (19 cm)
