If only I could speak the same language as my beloved cat, there would be so much more I could understand... Living with a cat, I sometimes feel this sense of frustration. But if I could truly speak the same language as my cat, would our relationship really become more deeply connected than it is now?
I can't help but feel that it's precisely because we don't speak the same language that humans and cats are able to foster such a deep bond.
Observation skills are honed precisely because we can't converse.
If we spoke the same language, people would inevitably rely on verbal communication, often taking the other person's words at face value. And words can be surprisingly difficult to convey effectively.
It's not uncommon for feelings to get crossed in verbal communication, such as bravely saying "I'm fine" when you're not, or saying something that ends up angering the other person when you actually want to apologize.
On the other hand, non-verbal communication, I feel, makes it easier to get to the heart of the matter, as it increases the time spent truly engaging with the other person to understand their feelings.
For example, when you sense that your beloved cat is somehow not their usual self. I'm sure they would say "I'm fine" to brush it off if they could speak the same language. I believe they have their own pride.

But precisely because our relationship is non-verbal, we, their human family, worry, "Are they sick?" and carefully observe their daily behavior, or take them to the vet. Because we can't hear the words "I'm fine," we want to find evidence that they are okay with our own hands.

Actively trying to understand another's heart in such a way is rarely seen in human relationships. That's why I think it's a precious act, and it's a little comforting to know that I am capable of caring for someone so earnestly.

Moreover, the observational skills directed at my cat are also valuable in relationships between people who do speak the same language. Cats also teach us the ability to perceive feelings. Realizing this has made my quiet communication with my cat even more precious.
There's a unique comfort to be found only in a cat's "silence."
While some cats are talkative, compared to dogs, cats have many silent moments. I really love that silence.

When I'm exhausted from my busy daily life, I become disinclined to talk to people, and no matter how much I care about someone, my heart gets worn out if they invade my personal space.
Precisely because we are humans who speak the same language, there are days when I don't want anyone near me. It's painful to force myself to converse when my mind and body are exhausted, and yet, a prolonged silence can feel awkward.
But in such times, if the one beside me is a cat, my heart feels at ease. I don't have to say anything, and my cat's actions of simply being quietly by my side feel like a "gentle expression of love" and bring me comfort.

My beloved cat doesn't use cliché phrases like "You did well" or "It's okay to cry"; instead, by simply cuddling, they fully affirm me for who I am. No matter how pathetic I may appear, they remain by my side, allowing me to reveal my vulnerable and sloppy self in front of them, something I can't do with other humans.

I'm sure I wouldn't get that sense of security if we spoke the same language.
My beloved cat, who simply stays by my side, communicates through their actions, "I'm here because I want to be." Because of that gentle expression of affection, I feel like I can breathe when I'm exhausted and truly myself.
The joy of having your love accepted is immense.
I've always disliked words that sound too sweet. "I love you," "I adore you," "I'll always be by your side"—I especially don't want to hear such things from those dear to me. When I hear those words, I feel pressured to reciprocate with the same amount of love, and it becomes suffocating.
Love is invisible, and its forms are varied. I understand that intellectually, but I still find myself forcing myself to think, "Since they say that, I must cherish them too," or sometimes I get angry and think, "Don't just say sweet words and expect that to be enough."

While there are times I appreciate verbal expressions of love, I sometimes feel a cold detachment, as if the relationship is merely held together by words.
But cats are different. Precisely because we don't speak the same language, our relationship will never be solely based on words, and because words aren't involved, I feel like we're connected at a deeper, emotional level.
For example, even with something as simple as a hug, if a cat doesn't like it, they will genuinely escape. Seeing such an honest, uninhibited reaction, the joy I feel when my love is accepted is immense.
"I love you" can be said even with an empty heart, but wary cats won't allow physical contact unless they truly like you.

Therefore, for me, someone who struggles with distrust towards people, the time I spend hugging my beloved cat and confirming our affection is a moment where I can truly feel "love" in my heart. Because I can genuinely feel that we truly love each other.
No matter how much people affirm me with words, I can't believe it, but when my beloved cat allows me hugs and kisses, I can even think, "It's okay for me to exist in this world." Perhaps we humans rely too much on words... Living with a cat sometimes makes me reflect on this.

While it can be frustrating during times of illness that we don't speak the same language, I'm glad I'm a creature that speaks a different language from cats.

The ten-year bond I've nurtured with my beloved cats, without exchanging words, is surely strong and profound. Conscious of its preciousness, I want to continue enjoying silent conversations with my cats.
