At Poponeko's official online shop, Japanese-patterned cat collars are extremely popular. From chirimen and arabesque to komon patterns, Japanese designs truly suit cats.

Whenever I see people in traditional Japanese attire, I can't help but gaze intently at the patterns on their kimonos and obis... I find myself envisioning cat collars in my head and wondering if they would suit a cat (lol).

Through this, I also discovered the charm of traditional Japanese textiles.

Spinning cotton, weaving patterns with warp and weft threads. I wanted to create cat collars using carefully crafted traditional textiles. With this in mind, the Enshu Cotton Tsumugi Cat Collar was born.

This time, I would like to introduce another traditional textile: the "Mikawa Cotton Cat Collar."

Unique technique for soft weaving

Mikawa cotton is a traditional textile produced in the Mikawa region of eastern Aichi Prefecture.

It is characterized by its striped pattern, known as "Mikawa-shima," and refreshing indigo color, and is often used for kimonos and Western clothing. The entire process, from cultivating high-quality cotton to spinning, dyeing, and weaving the threads, is carried out in the Mikawa region. Specialist artisans meticulously perform each step.

Cotton cultivation began in the Heian period. It is said to have flourished as a cotton industry during the Sengoku period, so it certainly has a rich history.

You might imagine cotton to be stiff and rigid. However, Mikawa cotton is soft and fluffy. It is said that by weaving the fabric in a way that traps air between the layers, it achieves a soft finish that smoothly conforms to the skin.

Fabric that is made with time, effort, and care is always comfortable. This means even sensitive cats can wear it with peace of mind.

We created a "cat-friendly cat collar" using this historic Mikawa cotton.
