A "cat harness" is an essential item to prevent your cat from escaping during disasters, vet visits, car rides, and other outings.

It's an item you'd want to have, isn't it? Poponeko's cat harness was developed based on the results of a survey of 1,800 cat owners, using materials that are difficult to slip out of and gentle on the skin and fur.

■Product development exclusively for cats, based on a survey of 1,800 cat owners

Poponeko's product development for "cat-friendly harnesses" began with thorough research.

To determine what kind of cat harness was needed by cats and their owners, and what actual users were struggling with, a survey was conducted targeting 1,800 cat owners. Based on the information obtained from their responses, we repeatedly developed prototypes for a harness specifically for cats, rather than merely adapting a dog harness.

■Ultra-three-dimensional structure for a secure, non-slip fit

The biggest concern with cat harnesses is that they might slip off.

We have achieved an ultra-three-dimensional vest type that firmly covers your cat's soft body. Vest-type harnesses have a wide area of contact with the skin, making them less likely to slip off. The back can be securely fastened with a hook-and-loop closure approximately 5 cm wide. The highly cushioned lining gently and securely holds your cat's upper body.

■Excellent ease of use: easy to put on and take off

We also focused on "ease of putting on" when it's actually used.

If it's not easy to use without reading the instructions, it's not practical. To completely eliminate owner hassle, we repeatedly prototyped and adopted a simple design that is easy to put on and take off. You can quickly put it on your cat before they have a chance to object, ensuring they don't develop a negative impression.

■Gentle on skin and fur, made with organic cotton

The concept of "hair-loss-preventing cat collars" has been applied to harnesses as well.

The lining that touches the cat's skin is made of luxuriously soft, domestically produced organic cotton to reduce strain on the skin and fur. The hook-and-loop fastener on the back is a soft type, also used in human baby clothing, to prevent discomfort for the cat. The outer material is a domestically produced cotton-poly chambray fabric that has the necessary stiffness for a secure fit, is resistant to dirt, and is thin and easy to conform to the body shape, minimizing interference with the cat's movement.

■Poponeko harnesses are washable at home

To prevent the growth of bacteria and parasites that can cause skin and coat problems, and to keep the skin clean, this product is washable at home.

Hand wash or, if using a washing machine, place in a laundry net and wash on the "hand wash cycle." To dry, smooth out wrinkles and hang dry in the shade.

■How to get your cat used to a harness

• When wearing a cat harness for the first time, most cats will object or become motionless.
• When wearing a cat harness for the first time, do not force it; let your cat get used to it for short periods.
• Start with a few minutes to about 10 minutes, and if your cat objects, take it off immediately.
• If your cat freezes or lies down even after you've managed to put it on, take it off immediately without forcing it.
• Take your time and let your cat gradually get used to it over several days to several weeks.
